Choosing An Identity Protection Company

In Identity Theft of CreditGuru (September 27, 2008 6:00 am)

The other day two co-workers were debating who was best Debix or LifeLock. I actually listened closely to this “debate” as I too was considering buying Lifelock identity protection. This is what they taught me.

Life Lock is the best known when it comes to identity protection services. They do all the work for their clients even though many things could be done yourself for free such as placing and renewing a fraud alert. In order to get attention and show how confident they are in being able to protect your identity, Lifelocks CEO actually made his social security number public. This is how I first became conscious of them. Life Lock is also able to continuously make a name for itself due to the ongoing recognition they receive from others.

LifeLock has some valuable for your personal to ensure it is not being sold. True Address checks with databases that your address has not been changed by a criminal. LifeLock the only identity protection company who can truly protect children from identity theft.

LifeLock is ISO 27001 certified which shows that their security at company headquarters is top of the line and really secure. They seem to have invested in such which makes them able to provide real protection of the information that people hand them. They also were the first to offer the $1 Million identity theft insurance offer.

As for Debix, another identity protection company gaining traction in the identity protection racket, is almost as good as LifeLock. They also put a Debix Safe Phone Number in your credit report, not your phone number. This keeps your phone numbers private. Also, during the credit approval request process, reporting fraudulent credit requests is easy to report to law enforcers by just pushing a button on your phone. Simply hit star to be connected to a licensed investigator who will help you contact the appropriate authorities.

Debix has a patented technology that is perhaps the closest thing to getting full proof identity theft protection. Debixs fraud alert system is the best. There is also an audit trail in case an imposter impersonates you.

Both Debix and LifeLock place fraud alerts on your behalf and order your 3 bureau credit report. They also remove you from junk mail and credit card lists. Debix also stops telemarketing calls. The differences are Debix’s unique fraud alert system and low price $24/year compared to LifeLocks additional offerings including Erecon, TrueAddress, WalletLock and, of course, the $1 million guarantee.

Hopefully this helps you evaluate which service is right for you. It seems that you get better credit protection with LifeLock but at $24 a year Debix is definitely worth considering. $75 a year means something to me at this point and it may to you as well.
