Stanford University was founded in 1891 by a a man and his wife with the last name Stanford who created this university in honor of their only child, a son called Leland Jr., who died at the age of 15 of typhoid fever. It is situated between San Francisco and San Jose, California and is one of the top academic schools in the country. It has a strong reputation for a terrific undergraduate program as well as various graduate schools in the areas of business, medicine. The first stop would be the Castor Arts Center that has over 24 galleries holding artwork of all types from paintings to sculptures. This center is used for exhibitions in addition to lectures and classes for the studetns studying art. You should also take notice of all of the sculptural art on campus. Some of the noted is the Rodin Sculpture garden with over 40 pieces by Auguste Rodin. The Thomas Welton Stanford Art Gallery is also a wonderful spot to see art and art classrooms.
There are a couple of other places to be certain to see when going to Stanford University. One is the church that is located on the main quad on campus and is called the Stanford Memorial Church. It was built in 1903 in memory of Leland Stanford and has always been non-sectarian. One of the most magnificent parts about it is the beautiful mosaic on the interior walls showing the Hebrew Bible. There are 20,000 various shades of color in the tiles used for this mosaic as well as gorgeous stained glass art too. This is truly the {building|place] to see on campus. Another good place to see the Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve which is just outside the campus. They have two hour hikes through this ecological Preserve that are led by docents to help inform those about the preserve.
