How to Stop Debt Collectors From Harassing You

In today’s economy it’s pretty easy to get behind in your bills. And when that happens you might have to deal with debt collectors. Even though we’re responsible for our debts there’s no reason to put up with a lot of the disgusting tactics that some debt collection agencies use. You can beat debt collectors at their own game and stop debt collectors in their tracks.
Even though many legitimate debt collection agencies are respectful of their clients, too many of them resort to intimidation, threats, and debt collector harassment. They seem to pester you almost every day and never leave you alone. And some of the things they do are so sleazy and downright sneaky that they can make a grown man cry.
However, even though things look pretty bleak right now, you can turn the tables on them and fight back.
Here are a number of things you can consider doing.
The most important thing to remember is that you do not have to put up with being harassed.
You can tell them that they will have to communicate to you in writing. This way you will get their name, address, and phone number.
You can use that information to research their company. You want to see if they are a legitimate debt collection agency. If they are not you can report them - you can certainly stop debt collectors if they are taking illegal actions.
It’s good to get this information because then you will have things in writing if you end up going to court.
The most important thing is not to give them any of your personal financial information over the phone. If they begin pressuring you and start demanding that information, just tell them to put their requests in writing and send it to you.
If they keep on trying to pressure you just hang up.
And if you have a cell phone, consider adding their phone number to your reject list. Why should you talk to such jerks?
And they could be a lot worse than just being jerks. It’s possible that they are thieves who got hold of your account information and telephone number. It could be a slimy debt collection agency that will take money out of your account with or without your authorization if you give them the information they are telling you to give them.
It’s worth repeating - don’t ever give a debt collection agency any personal information over the phone.
