5 Frequently Asked Questions About Government Grant Programs

In Credit Repair of CreditGuru (May 11, 2009 1:42 pm)

The internet is filled with government grant programs for ordinary people just like you to take advantage of.  Although some may find it hard to believe that it is possible to qualify for free money that is exactly the case with grant programs from the government.  To help you better understand this concept, here are five frequently asked questions on the topic.

1. Where can I find a personal grant?

If you are looking for a personal grant that can you can use, you will want to contact Government agencies in your county and state to find out if there are any available to you.  Chances are good that you will find some kind of programs that can provide you with medical, food, housing, transportation or another type of financial assistance.  If you are looking for assistance with paying your bills or debts, there are nonprofit organizations that can help.

2. Can you really receive money for free?

Many of the books found online and ads on TV are telling the truth in regards to free money that you can receive from government grant programs.  You will find information to help you get free grant money from the U.S. Government’s Grants web site, the Foundation Center, and other grant making organizations online.  What you need to be cautious of is the fact that many of the grants you find will be limited to non-profit organizations, universities, or financial aid for education.

3. Where can I get a grant to repair a home?

If you are looking to purchase a home or repair one there is assistance out there.  You want to start by contacting your state and local Department of Housing and Department of Social Services.  They will be able to find out if there is any financial assistance for you.  In addition, you can search the internet for non-profit organizations in your state that can help with home ownership or home repairs.

4. Am I guaranteed to get a grant?

The great thing about government grant programs is that there is no limit as to how many grants you apply for.  However, you are not guaranteed to be accepted for even one grant.  No one can guarantee that you will get a grant and you need to be wary of programs or services that claim you will for sure get one.

5. Where can I attain information on government loans?

The last question that people often ask about government grant programs is where they can attain further information on government loans.  To start you will want to look at grant.gov as this is filled with information to help you out.  If you are looking for loans for a small business, take a look at the Small Business Administration.

  2. This is great!! I am amazed at looking at the questions. Yeah almost same. But I am interested in one - “Can you really receive money for free?”. Because people really want free money as a result they end up in such a trap where they can not do anything. So it is advisable to do something useful to earn money instead of getting it in free.

  30. What about grants for small businesses? Are they as easy to get? I’m concerned that with our current government debt crisis these grants might be reduced. I would like to expand my Colorado Springs Plumberbusiness. Has anyone seen it work for small business?
